Places to See

  • South Devon Beaches
South Devon is home to some of the UK’s best beaches, with 22 miles of sandy coastline and 20 different beaches to choose from. One of the best is Blackpool Sands, about a 20 minute drive from Barcroft Manor, where there’s a stunning white sand beach and a nice beach café and shop. If you fancy travelling a bit further to Torquay then there are an abundance of idyllic bays, such as Torre Abbey Sands and the sandy-shale beaches around the red-clay Babbacombe Beach – a place where the locals go to escape the throngs of tourists.
  • Tourquay
Torquay – or the ‘English Riviera’ as it’s fondly known as – is a paradise town of palm trees, steep hills, and plentiful beaches. Weather permitting, you can enjoy a leisurely walk along the pier and promenade, ice cream in hand, and wander up the magnificent Royal Terrace Gardens, where stunning views of the harbour await. Or you can do a spot of retail therapy and visit one of Torquay’s many independent and chain shops.
  • Datmouth
Dartmouth is a little quieter and smaller than Torquay, but it is still just as pleasant. The town is fast becoming a fashionable destination, with lots of boutique shops and quality eateries popping up in the last few years. However glamorous Dartmouth is becoming, the fishing industry still beats on here, and you can sit idly by watching the boats come in and deliver fresh fish to the restaurants lining the water’s edge. Culinary highlights include Seahorse (Tel: 01803 835147) and Rockfish (Tel: 01803 832800). To burn off your fish lunch, be sure to walk up to the gigantic Britannia Naval College, a stunning building which overlooks the town.
  • Totnes
Totnes prides itself on being different. Since 2006, the town has made every effort to wean itself from a dependence of peak oil, climate destruction and economic instability. As a result, it has its own local currency – the ‘Totnes Pound’ – and makes every attempt at creating a strong localised community. There are lots of lovely shops here, and almost all are independent; you will find antique books, bespoke furniture, fine art, handmade shoes and market goods. Eateries are excellent, too, with Riverford Field Kitchen (Tel: 01803 762074) coming up trumps and Willow (Tel: 01803 862605) serving the best vegetarian food around.

  • We hope you’ll enjoy using the swimming pool. We want to make sure it is as safe as possible for everyone, so we ask all guests to ensure that the following guidelines are respected. These guidelines are designed to meet basic health and safety regulations, so ensure that all members of your party have read the rules regarding the use of the pool.
  • Please Note: This is a shared facility
  1. Swimming costumes are obligatory and you will need to bring your own towels unless otherwise stated.
  2. You must shower before entering the swimming pool to remove any skin oils, make-up, hair products etc.
  3. Outdoor shoes and coats must be taken off around the pool area.
  4. No alcohol or smoking is allowed in the swimming pool.
  5. Do not bring any form of glass into the pool area.
  6. Do not bring in any electrical equipment into the swimming pool area where you could be in contact with water.
  7. Children must be supervised in and around the swimming pool and must not use it without an adult present.
  8. For outdoor pools, please keep noise levels to an acceptable level – please be mindful that there are neighbouring properties in close proximity.
  9. It is safer and more enjoyable to use the pool with another person. We advise against using the pool alone without a member of your group knowing of your whereabouts.
  10. Please note you must not use the swimming pool if you are suffering from an infectious disease or you have an open wound or sore that cannot be covered by a waterproof plaster.
  11. You must not use the swimming pool within 48 hours of suffering any stomach illness.

Hot Tub Use

  • We hope you’ll enjoy using the hot tub. We want to make sure it is as safe as possible for everyone, so we ask all guests to ensure that the following guidelines are respected. These guidelines are designed to meet basic health and safety regulations, so ensure that all members of your party have read the rules regarding the use of the hot tub.
  1. Swimming costumes are obligatory and you will need to bring your own towels unless otherwise stated as included
  2. You must shower before entering the hot tub to remove any skin oils, make-up, hair products etc. This is vital to ensure a clean and healthy hot tub. If this rule is abused the hot tub may need to be closed for several days so that the water can be thoroughly refreshed.
  3. Outdoor shoes and coats must be taken off around the hot tub area.
  4. No alcohol or smoking is allowed in the hot tub.
  5. Do not bring any form of glass into the hot tub area.
  6. Do not bring in any electrical equipment into the hot tub area where you could be in contact with water.
  7. Do not over-occupy the hot tub as this will lead to water spillage and will cause the hot tub to stop working. This is because the filter needs to be covered with water to work.
  8. Children must be supervised in and around the hot tub and must not use it without an adult present. Some children can overheat; please seek medical advice if this occurs.
  9. Please keep noise levels to an acceptable level. The hot tub is a place of peace and relaxation – be mindful that there are neighbouring properties in close proximity.
  10. It is safer and more enjoyable to use the hot tub with another person. We advise against using the hot tub alone without a member of your group knowing of your whereabouts.
  11. On leaving the hot tub please switch off all jets and lights and make sure that the hot tub is sealed with the cover provided.
  12. Please note you must not use the hot tub if you are suffering from an infectious disease or you have an open wound or sore that cannot be covered by a waterproof plaster.
  13. You must not use the hot tub within 48 hours of suffering any stomach illness.
  14. Certain medical conditions can be affected by the hot tub, particularly those involving extremes of temperature. You are advised to consult your doctor if you are pregnant, or suffer from any of the following: heart disease; circulatory problems; high or low blood pressure; diabetes; or any other condition that affects your body’s ability to react to heat.
  15. Prevent taking any medication which may affect your circulation or your ability to react to heat.

We therefore ask all our guests to show consideration to the environment and our neighbours in all matters, and especially with regard to noise. To help ensure everyone’s holiday goes well, we ask you to respect the following noise rules:
  1. After 9pm and before 9am please use the terraces and gardens around the house as quiet areas.
  2. Please do not take radios, CD players or other sources of music outside the house.
  3. Please do not turn up music within the property to provide music outside.
  4. Please limit any loud music playing inside the house so it cannot be heard outside.
  5. Please show consideration for our neighbours in the early morning and late evening.
  6. If you are having any deliveries or ordering taxis please ensure they have clear directions.
  • The vast majority of our guests will of course behave with great consideration to our neighbours and would never intend to offend but observing our noise policy will remove any potential for the harmonious environment to be disturbed.
