The Ship
Bar, café and restaurant serving breakfast lunch and dinner! Quite a mad interior ‘based on the ocean liners of yesteryear” but the garden is really great and the food is pretty good. It’s had some positive write-ups as the Jamie Wickens (one of the owners) is a Rick Stein Food Hero and also one of the Times’ Top 10 UK Butchers.

The Red Pig
A real local quirk! This is a road side food truck with a difference as it is set in a Shepherd’s hut and serves excellent food, coffee and cakes! Don’t miss the Pet Levers (huge local 100% pork sausages in a roll with homemade pickles and sauces) but vegetarians need not be put off as they are catered for too with hearty fare such as Moroccan vegetable stews.

Rye doesn’t really have a very good supermarket, but luckily it is well serviced by a good selection of independent butchers, fishmongers and grocers.

Mainstream supermarkets like Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Tesco will all deliver to the house, so if you’re staying for a while it may be worth having a supermarket delivery arranged.
